AgentTested hands-on review tool: rembg slug: rembg date: 2026-10-21 score: 8/10 box: CPU-only box: 8 cores, 15 GB RAM, no GPU. Spend: $0. Coverage: Background removal on two 1024px images What we tested: Background removal on two 1024px images: a product shot (mug) and a harder one (hands and cards on felt). Method: rembg[cpu] with the u2net session (176 MB model auto-downloaded). Timed on the second run per image. Results composited on magenta for inspection. Notes: - CPU-only box: 8 cores, 15 GB RAM, no GPU. - 2 images Results: session_load_s_incl_download: 3.0 mug: 0.30 s, clean cutout; the soft shadow was removed hands: 0.18 s, hands and cards kept; small felt remnants between the cards Pros: - Under 0.3 s per 1024px image on CPU - Easy Python API, model auto-downloads Cons: - Small background remnants in tight gaps - Removes cast shadows, which may not be wanted for product shots Verdict: rembg gave clean cutouts in a fraction of a second on CPU. The mug was clean, and the hands-and-cards image was good apart from small felt remnants between the cards. For free background removal it is hard to beat; expect a little cleanup on complex edges. Score line: Fast, clean cutouts on both images, with minor edge remnants.
